Top Ten Tuesday: Intimidating Books

I've decided to jump on board with Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week the topic is: Intimidating Books.

This might be a hard one for me. I'm not generally intimidated by books - I like massive tomes, I like translated works, I like long running series... here's what I could come up with.

1. The Wasp Factory by Iain Banks - this one intimidates me simply because I know he is one of the most beloved authors out there and I really want to enjoy this one!

2. Everville by Clive Barker - I'm not so much intimidated by this one, but I keep putting it off because it's such a big honking book and Barker isn't always a quick read for me.

3. Kushiel's Dart by Jacqueline Carey - the only thing I find intimidating about this book is the potential that it just might not be my kind of thing!

4. The Prince of Bagram Prison and An Accidental American by Alex Carr - espionage can be a bit over my head sometimes depending on the focus of the plot.

5. Anything by John le Carre - same reason as #4

6. Don Quixote - need I explain?

7. The Tea Rose trilogy by Jennifer Donnelly - I'm not sure these intimidate me per se, I just know that I've put off reading them a very long time!

8. Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett - this one actually does intimidate me! I've read and enjoyed Follett's thrillers but I've not yet delved into this massive historical tome (I've not watched the show either - maybe I should start there)

9. Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami - I did read Wind Up Bird Chronicles and it was so completely odd and wonderful! It has definitely left me of the opinion that I need to be in the right mindset for more Murakami

10. Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series - again, not so much intimidated as I just really need a good time to start such a massive series!

I know what you mean about Iain Banks. After seeing all the support for him I'm a bit scared of not liking his books! Next year might be safer...
