The note read: Don't try to find me. I'll be okay. I'll be better. I love you.
It's any parent's worst nightmare. That morning, Rachel dropped Marley off at school as usual. But Marley never went to school. Rachel and her husband, Paul, soon learn that Marley hopped a bus and vanished. That she left of her own volition is fairly clear but what prompted her actions is not. And where she went is a mystery to them all.
Marley met and fell in love with B. online. They planned the whole thing together, with Marley set to travel clear across the country to be with him. But now that she's arrived, the reality is nothing like she'd imagined it would be. But she can't go back. Not after what her mother did.
Don't Try to Find Me is a truly chilling premise. A fourteen-year-old girl up and leaves her family with the precision and planning of someone who truly doesn't want to be found. For her parents it's an awful experience. For her mother in particular, it means analyzing every single decision she's made and every action she's taken to try and figure out what might have turned her daughter away from her.
But it's even worse than that. The story is told in two parts with Rachel and Marley regularly alternating chapters as the days since Marley's disappearance pass by. While Rachel faces public scrutiny in the wake of her husband's campaign to get the public involved in the case, Marley is living in hiding with an older man who hasn't been exactly forthright with the teen.
Don't Try to Find Me is an intense read about the relationships between parents and their kids, teens and their peers, and the emotional turmoil that can surround everyday life.
