Sixty-One Nails by Mike Shevdon

Mike Shevdon Has Blown Me Away!

So Friday I asked if you had seen any Angry Robot titles in your local stores yet. I also started one of their first releases, Mike Shevdon's Sixty-One Nails, that very same afternoon. I have to say, as an example not only of the work Angry Robot is pulling in but also as a taste of what is to come from an author I have to believe is going to be HUGE, Sixty-One Nails is completely brilliant! And I am stoked that Angry Robot is releasing book two in the series, The Road to Bedlam, in just over a month's time here in the States! Yay!

Sixty-One Nails is the first in Shevdon's Courts of the Feyre series. In the book, Niall Petersen suffers a sudden heart attack in London's Underground and is saved by a mysterious woman who calls herself Blackbird. She reveals to him that his heart attack is the result of a targeted attack from one of the Untainted, members of the Seventh Court. See, the Feyre have been living amongst and mingling with humans for quite some time now. Feyre of the first six courts, that is. And Niall must have some Feyre blood in him to have become a target himself. But all of this is just the beginning and I don't want to give too much of it away!

Shevdon's blend of history and folklore creates a rich picture of a London that is both real and full of magic. The plot is quick and though the book is a little hefty, I finished it in all of two days (and that was with a movie break to watch all three parts of the Red Riding trilogy, too!).

The Courts of the Feyre is a world that I happily got lost in and can't wait to return to. Really and truly amazing stuff, folks. I just can't recommend this book highly enough. Fans of Gaiman's Neverwhere are going to love Mike Shevdon.

Do You Angry Robot Yet?

Have you seen this symbol on bookshelves? If not, you should definitely be looking for it. Angry Robot Books is a UK based publisher publishing sci-fi, horror, fantasy, and everything else you can think of between those genres.

Though they launched in 2009, their books have only just begun to be distributed here in the States, with the first titles released on August 31:

Holiday Weekends Rock in My World!

Oh, the long holiday weekend is upon us. What is everyone up to? I'll be heading home for a shower (haha, just realized how that sounded!) and some time with my family. I've been looking forward to it for over a month now.

I've been trying to decide what books to bring. I mean, it's only the weekend, but I'm flying out tomorrow and back on Tuesday, which means I definitely need something to read in the airport/on the plane. I just can't make up my mind!

Ah well. I'd meant to make this a whole post, but I've run out of time. My absolute favorite sisters bought me Vampire Weekend tickets for tonight! And then I get to go see them tomorrow! I think that warrants a few more exclamation points!!!!
