Top Ten Tuesday: Books That'll Be in My Beach Bag

I've decided to jump on board with Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week the topic is: Top Ten Books That'll Be in My Beach Bag. (If I were going to the beach, that is. Instead these'll be my backyard picnic blanket reads.)

1. Mr. Mercedes by Stephen King - I do so love horror in the summer (any time of year really, but something about a chilling read in the middle of the summer is especially wonderful!).

2. Antonio Hill's Hector Salgado titles - I'm pairing Summer of Dead Toys and The Good Suicides because I plan to binge this series this summer!

3. The Severed Streets by Paul Cornell - I've been dying to get my hands on this one and now that it's out I have my chance. More urban fantasy/police procedural and I hear that Neil Gaiman makes an appearance as a character.

4. Nameless by Lili St. Crow - because I'm still not tired of fairy tale retellings and I do so enjoy Lilith Saintcrow's work.

5. The One by Kiera Cass - after I gave the first two to my sister, she bought this third. Now I'm waiting for her to share.

6. The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson - because epic fantasy actually does make great beach reading.

7. Rogues edited by George R. R. Martin and Gardner Dozois - nothing beats a great short story collection for summer reading. They're the perfect length for interrupted reading.

8. The Girls at the Kingfisher Club by Genevieve Valentine - a reimagining of "Twelve Dancing Princesses" set during Prohibition, yes please!

9. The Beautiful Thing That Awaits Us All by Laird Barron - another short story collection. I've heard really fabulous things about Barron's work.

10. Bliss House by Laura Benedict - Benedict is always a sure bet for a creepy tale. Her latest comes out very shortly and is on my must read list for the season for sure.

Wait, I can't stop at 10!

11. The Visitors by Sally Beauman - because it looks amazing (due out July 1)

12. That Summer by Lauren Willig - with a title like That Summer of course it has to make my summer reading list.

13. Robogenesis by Daniel H. Wilson - everyone needs a little robot apocalypse fiction in their TBR :)

I want to read Mr. Mercedes also. I've loved Stephen King since I was a kid, and I've probably read 30 of his books over my reading lifetime (so far).

Rogues is an excellent choice for beach reading! I might steal that idea actually, since then I wouldn't have to worry about remembering details from one beach trip to the next :D

The Kiera Cass trilogy looks really good, I plan on reading at least part of it sometime this summer. Great list!
